About Susie Bird
Susie joined CivicActions as a Project Manager in 2016. Her bright curiosity and penchant for learning make her adept at grasping new situations or processes quickly, and helping others understand them. Building on her prior experience with state government IT projects, Susie brings a passion for integrating Agile methodologies into government and improving user experiences.
Susie’s well-rounded technical and scientific background, blended with project management experience, has equipped her to communicate easily with developers, managers, and stakeholders. As a quintessential ‘people-person’ she savors the challenge of bringing everyone to the same page, managing change in a nurturing way, and facilitating an agile culture.
Beyond project management, Susie applies her inquisitive and creative approach to Information Security projects. Her goal is to help bridge the knowledge gap in government between open source software and security.
Prior to joining CivicActions, Susie spent five years working on large state government IT projects with a focus on technology reform. She assisted with modifications to the California Unemployment Benefits System to make it easier and faster for citizens to connect with their government and receive the right benefits. Through design, development, testing, and rollout, Susie practiced Organizational Change Management, looking out for the needs of users and administrators throughout the project.
Susie served for several years as Enterprise Release Manager for the California Medicaid Management Information System, which included large system modifications such as HIPAA 5010, ICD-10, and the Affordable Care Act compliance.
Enthusiastic about teaching and empowering young people, Susie volunteers with Junior Achievement, a non-profit organization placing professionals in local K-12 schools to teach students about work-readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills.
Susie received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a certified Project Management Professional and a member of the Project Management Institute (Sacramento Valley Chapter). She likes to get out of the “office” by trail running in the Sierra Mountains with her two dogs, and recently completed her first 70.3 triathlon.
