Compostmodern: Sustainable Design and the Pickle Barrel Composter

I'm looking forward to attending the unconference at Compostmodern, where sustainability and design meet. As an urban farmer/user experience designer, I love this fertile ground where disciplines aren't so disciplined, and people aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.

I mean this literally – I'd rather meet people over compost than coffee.

Opportunities at CivicActions

This past year, CivicActions has undergone a transformation in the way that we organize project teams.  We've moved from a "matrix" model (people contributing to several projects) to what we call "Pods" (dedicated teams focused on one or two projects at a time). This transformation has yielded incredible results for clients and project team members. This model also means that we can more easily scale, which we are preparing to do in 2010.

Cool Social Entrepreneurship site

This is really fascinating, I reccommend checking it out, basically it allows people to invest in small business of folks from around the world. But the best part is, you can micro-lend like $20, and if 100 people do it, the guy's got enough to start a veggie cart, or an auto shop. I just found out about it today, and it looks really promising. Since it's my Birthday today, I invested $25 in Rose Wamaitha Shoe Shop. http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=3896
