If Stanford University had been handing out Social Engineering degrees, Peta Hoyes would have graduated magna cum laude. Instead, she leveraged their Mechanical Engineering program as a launch pad for using technology to develop practical solutions for extraordinary people. The onetime entrepreneur and current project manager at CivicActions has managed all aspects of the web site development cycle for clients as diverse as the U.S. Postal Service and BET Networks, the premier online community for African-American culture and entertainment where her penchant for innovation informs every page.

Marrying Peta’s penchant for social networks and just causes is her work on behalf of the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR). Faced with a multi-layered project directed toward a complex target audience, she got all sides to buy into branding via high-quality design and facilitated the adoption of cutting-edge social networking tools. The resulting site is as impactful as it is effective. For Amnesty International, Peta is extending the reach of a global client while keeping it relevant to core constituencies. With the firm’s Drupal-based tools at her disposal, she engineers solutions that stress communication and outreach.

Using the greater New York City area as home base, Peta has traveled the planet in pursuit of her twin passions, wellness and sustainability. Time spent in Japan allowed her to immerse herself in the language while studying the country’s economy and product design. A green sensibility that’s both personal and professional is in alignment with the causes she represents.
