J. Pasila

J Pasila joined CivicActions as a Project Manager in September 2007. She has worked with us on Witness, MeNotMeth, Generational Alliance, and MyGovernment/MyPolicyOptions among others. Recent projects include Lambent Foundation and the Center for Civic Media at MIT.

Before joining the CivicActions team, J worked as a freelance art director focusing on clients in the fields of culture, education and healthcare. She consults for a number of LGBTQ organizations in NYC and is a volunteer with The Center for Urban Pedagogy in Brooklyn. J is a certified Brooklyn Urban Gardener (b.u.g) through the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Greenbridge program and a certified Citizen Pruner through TreesNY.

J is a visual artist working in the mediums of photography/installation, and drawing. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and earned her MFA in the Department of Architecture and Department of Video at the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf, Germany. Her work is shown in NYC and abroad and she is a fellow of the Macdowell Colony and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. After living in Amsterdam, NL for seven years and the woods of Western Mass, she is happy to call Brooklyn home.
