Hailu Dyami
Hailu Dyami has been steeped in social causes since birth, which may be why this son of politically active parents from the “five sisters” region of western Massachusetts is so drawn to CivicActions. An engineer and jack-of-all-trades, he hacks Drupal modules and writes custom PHP as seamlessly as he provides quality assurance for the team. Prior to joining CivicActions, he worked on the Manhattan Neighborhood Network, a subset of Manhattan’s public-access television station where he wrote a Drupal module to display information about the network’s programming.
Active on a number of the firm’s projects, Hailu devotes half his time to quality assurance and wears multiple hats for the balance. On behalf of Amnesty International, he provided custom coding for the Menu Trails module. As an application specialist, he laid the groundwork for development projects including Next Agenda and the Witness Project. An engagement with ProVention saw Hailu as lead engineer on an initiative sponsored by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
With an African-American father and Native American mother, issues of peace and social justice have informed Hailu’s being for as long as he can remember. He is currently aiding the Prison Birth Project, a non-profit that provides support services to incarcerated mothers in western Massachusetts. He also lets loose as a member of a Pow Wow drum and runs free with his two-year-old daughter every chance he gets.
