Andy Laken
Andy is a seasoned web developer and IT consultant with a passion for using technology to fuel personal and social transformation. His 20 years of experience spans database systems, game design, nonprofit technology, web design and development, e-commerce, publication design, and content management.
At CivicActions Andy has worked as an Drupal/CiviCRM engineer on SACNAS, and previously led engineering efforts on Reality Sandwich and Evolver.net, where he oversaw the launch of the new grassroots social network Evolver.net. Just prior to joining CivicActions Andy helped launch a new Drupal site for Artomatic, a unique yearly community art show in Washington, DC.
Previously, Andy spent four years as Technology Director at the Quixote Center, a Maryland-based multi-issue social justice nonprofit, where he created custom Drupal solutions for grassroots engagement, trained staff in effective use of technology, integrated websites with back-office systems, managed donor databases, participated in all major organizational decision-making, and fixed printers.
Andy feels that clear thinking, clear communication, and valuing relationships are critical to a project's success, and brings his passion for his clients' mission and effective communications style to all projects he touches.
Andy lives in Missoula, Montana, and is the founder of the Western Montana Drupal user's group. He is active in local sustainability and human rights initiatives, and enjoys practicing mindfulness in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, being outside, good coffee, and classic Star Trek.
