The WITNESS Video Hub is a participatory website where anyone, anywhere can upload human rights related media that can be used to create change. Using technologies such as cell phones and other mobile devices, web-based video upload and content distribution, online community building, advocacy and organizational tools, the Video Hub provides new opportunities to feed the populist shift toward user-generated content with media in the service of global human rights advocacy.

Making the Credit Card CVV Field Optional in CiviCRM

We have a client that wanted to be able to process donations when the Credit Card's CVV numbers were not available. I had thought this field was mandatory, and indeed, CiviCRM's AuthorizeNet payment processor package requires it. But after talking with AuthorizeNet (the company) we discovered that the field is optional.

This is a useful trick that fellow CivicActions team member and CiviCRM wizard Matt Chapman showed me. Basically, the hook_civicrm_validate() function can be used to reset an error caused by a missing field. Here's the entirety of the civicrm_cvv module:

Eric Broder loves working at a company where he can use his web development skills to help out the good guys. At CivicActions he plays the role of Engineer, which basically means that he helps make sure the technical needs of a project are met on time and on budget.

After getting his start at MIT, Eric eventually committed to web development full time and embraced open technologies like Drupal. Eric's experience includes working on a variety of web development projects with both public interest and for-profit organizations. Given his passion for green issues, he's thankful for the chance to have worked with Save The Bay (San Francisco), Ideal Bite, and other great eco-friendly communities.

Eric is proud to be a member of the Drupal Association and to have graduated from MIT with honors. He lives happily in the beautiful city of Oakland, California.

Andy brings fifteen years of technical leadership to the CivicActions team, helping clients in the non-profit and government sectors as well as Fortune 1000 corporations plan, development, and implement public websites, e-commerce systems, intranets and extranets.

Prior to joining CivicActions Andy spent six years in managerial roles as Vice President of Technology at SpireMedia and CTO at Creation Chamber – both interactive agencies in Denver. Before that he was one of the initial developers at Beatport and senior software engineer at interactive agencies iXL and Eagle River Interactive. In his career he has helped develop successful sites for non-profit, government, and socially-responsible clients including Rocky Mountain PBS, Denver Water, Denver Office of Economic Development, Howard Dean, Bonfils Blood Center, Denver Public Schools, and Silk Soymilk (Whitewave Foods) along with a host of corporate clients such as Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Aspen Skiing Company, Steamboat, Mapquest, Thomson Learning, Apple Computer, Pioneer Electronics, and Budget Rent-a-car.

Andy believes that the first step in a journey determines the destination, and that one must apply equal amounts of passion, wisdom, creativity and effort to arrive at proper, simple and elegant solutions – both philosophies he applies to development projects. Andy is passionate about human and animal rights, mental health issues, and the power of positive consciousness. In his free time Andy is a progressive house DJ, enjoys cyclocross biking, and fosters Italian Greyhounds.

EcoTuesday is a social venture startup that needed a website to tell its story, connect members to one another, and make it easy for participants to sign up for events.

We began our engagement with a detailed discussion of strategy to determine the priority of features, as well a solution to meet the future needs of a growing organization. Open source tools were the preference of the client, which aligned with their core value of sustainability.

About EcoTuesday

EcoTuesday is a networking event for sustainable business leaders. Every event features a 20-minute keynote by an industry thought–leader, followed by the hallmark "Introduction Circle" where all participants have an opportunity to share about their about passions to find like-minded collaborators. Events take place nationwide, currently in 9 cities, on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

Utilizing the model of growing by having local ambassadors start new events, EcoTuesday supports collaboration and the incubation of great ideas by connecting inspired people with others who are similarly-focused on creating a more sustainable world.
