Make An Impact Schools Challenge

The Center For Climate and Energy Solutions Make An Impact Project works with corporations, their employess and surrounding communities to educate and motivate individual action to reduce carbon footprints.  The Schools Challenge works with students at schools across the country to reduce their family's impact through a pledge to reduce energy consumption and recycle.

Students visit the website and complete a check-list pledge form. After they submit the form, they see a tally of the impact their pledges will have in terms of CO2 reduction. Pledges are aggregated by school, and schools are ranked on the leader board in a competition against each other for pledge participation.

The last question on the check list is a pledge to complete a more extensive carbon calculator with their family. Completions of the carbon calculator are included in the ranking of schools on the leaderboard.

Two interesting technical aspects of this implementation are that anonymous users are presented with an elegant pledge form (which is a Drupal node creation form) and the node submissions are aggregated by school and the schools are grouped by region on the leader board using the views module and custom theming.
