Lambentfoundation.org Website Strategy and Development

Lambentfoundation.org Website Strategy and Development

For some time after their launch as a Foundation, the Lambent Foundation functioned with a home page and a Filemaker database managed by the single Program Officer. They wanted their support of projects at the intersection of activism and the visual beauty and art that moves people to act to be represented by a more beautiful and descriptive website presence.

The Lambent Foundation approached CivicActions with the desire for visual design, Drupal website development and the integration of the Filemaker CRM they had been using.

Our work involved a Discovery phase that allowed us to scope the functionality of the website and the CRM integration. It also allowed us to get a better sense of how the development work needed to fit within the schedule and availability of the very small program staff, busy during parts of the year in the grantmaking cycle. It also allowed us to learn more about the nuances of the Foundation's public debut and their target audiences.

Our team spent several months developing a new visual design, supporting the completion of content for the new site, and also interviewing Foundation grantees as end users of the final product, in addition to the technical development.

Now that the initial project has been completed, CivicActions continues to provide maintenance service and additional development as-needed. The Lambent Foundation now has the ability to better communicate about themselves and their mission, and the CRM is now integrated with the website and some steps of the grant application and grant making process. Program staff was also trained to operate the new CMS/CRM, and is able to add and edit their own content, create galleries for grantees and events, and continues to learn more about what end users need from the technology.

About Lambent Foundation

The Lambent Foundation leverages the critical role of arts and culture at the intersection of social justice. Through grantmaking and creative programs they explore the impact of contemporary art as a strategy for promoting sustainable cultural practices in New York City, New Orleans and Nairobi.

The Foundation started in 2008, as they began to recognize increasing disconnects between critical progressive movement building and truly moving hearts and minds. Their aim is to shed light on the potential for aesthetics and beauty to serve alongside advocacy and organizing efforts for social justice.

The Foundation is drawn to landscapes where art and culture are infused in the fabric of daily life. From visionary spaces in their own backyard of New York City, to the cultural hub of New Orleans, to the networks of global artistic practices in Nairobi, these cities allow the Foundation to engage in rich and timely conversations. Through place-based grantmaking their intention is to support not just the arts of these regions, but a more just world that encompasses the needs within these vibrant communities.
