You can also remove the two knobs for the two bad burners to help the user avoid errors. Ron Giving the IA/Usability perspective
Great idea! Reading a label and trying to 'decypher' what it is associated with and what it means, is much slower than just not being able to turn the burner on. One added nuance: one of the 2 'broken' burners works with a match. This one could be removed, and pulled out for special multi-course occasions.
I agree, the arrow directions, and label locations are completely inconsistent ;) I would suggest that the arrows point out from the controls (indicating direction of control/influence), in which case the labels should probably be placed at each control, at the base of the arrows (or at least consistently!). Alternatively this could perhaps be represented as lines without arrows (if you consider the controllers and burners to be a single unit working as a team) in which case labeling the lines themselves probably makes the most sense (as the centroid of the 'unit'). - Owen
This made me laugh. I have just one "bad" burner, but I know how you feel!
