Immigration Detention Centers
An acquaintance of mine was detained by Homeland Security. His recently expired US visa landed him in the detention center in Tacoma, WA, where he had no legal counsel for 6 weeks:
He's safely back in Belgium now, but he has additional paper work that must be approved by the US to clear his name. Letters from the community helped persuade the judge to let him return home.
Another close friend of mine visited him during his stay. She said it was very strict and she was not allowed to bring him anything e.g. books and magazines are prohibited. They talked on phones separated by glass. Lights in the facility are on at all times, and the walls and floors are white. He had trouble adjusting when he got out, because his eyes had been flooded by the glare for so long.
That video might lead you to think he's a protester, but he is not. He's a dog trainer who was traveling with his dogs and competing in the US and Canada. He has no plans to live here illegally and is not a threat to the "homeland".
For those of you wondering about his dogs. They are safe in Canada, being cared for by a friend.
