Video Demo: Mobile App for Conferences and Associations Using Drupal and Appcelerator

The video below is a demonstration of our recent work using two open source software platforms to build native iPhone and Android apps for the InterAction Forum conference

First, we used the Drupal Conference Organizing Distribution (COD) as a "backend" system to structure all the content data including the schedule, speakers bios, sponsors and member organizations. The front-end interface was built using the development platform Appcelerator Titanium

The first time a user starts the mobile app, the latest content changes are loaded from Drupal COD backend. This important feature allows conference organizers to update participants on any late adjustments to the schedule. Additionally, as further content changes are made, the schedule/sessions can be manually refreshed on each device.

The conference app can be downloaded from the Google Android Market and the Apple App Store, and will run on mobile phones, tablets and the iPod touch.

Features:

  • Browse event schedule listings by day and room
  • Customize your own event schedule
  • Explore speaker bios, including profile images
  • Rate sessions
  • Navigate maps of the conference location
  • Exhibitor location listings
  • Profiles of member organizations
  • Sponsor detail pages
  • Twitter hashtag feed
If you are interested to learn how to mobilize your conference or association, please be in touch and we'll be happy to share our code or provide additional resources.
