Meet Up With The XX-Factor at She's Geeky Conference
This year will be the first time I have been able to attend the She's Geeky Regional Un-Conference, and Girl am I excited! She's Geeky brings together women from all walks of technology, including those working in non-technical fields within technology.
Since women are generally under-represented in technology, I am excited about the opportunity to meet more women in the field, get inspired by the exciting projects I will learn about, and networking with other women in the area.
The Un-Conference format is fairly new to me, so I am excited to learn what affinity exists among the women at the conference, and how it is or is not connected already to ideas and projects of which I am a part.
The conference organizers encourage women to bring their daughters as young as 9 years old, which I think is a great way to expose young girls to the possibiities that might lie outside of things that they have traditionally been exposed to.
I am also excited to attend with Nancy Brink, from EPA.net, who works with at-risk youth in East Palo Alto, and with whom CivicActions is working to develop a youth enterprise using the Drupal CMS. I am thrilled that some of the young women from the program may attend as well.
CivicActions is proud to be a corporate level sponsor of She's Geeky. We have one extra pass for the event, and we're giving it away. If you would like to attend She's Geeky, on our dime, here's what you need to do: either follow us on Twitter and tell us why you're excited by She's Geeky (in less than 140 characters, be sure to mention @civicactions, eg "@civicactions I want to go to @shesgeeky to share what I know about drupal!") or post a comment on this blog post. We will select one person on Thursday, January 21st at 5pm PST.
