WebEnabled Launches Rapid Development Platform Including Drupal Provisioning
WebEnabled is a Free and Open Source (FOSS) hosted platform that "makes it easy for teams to focus on building awesome web applications." Provisioning applications from their library is fast. Bevan reported getting a Drupal 7 instance up and running in a few minutes. The service offers full SSH, SCP and SFTP access. You can also manage your code revisions and collaborate with others using SVN. You can deploy your code to PC, Mac, Linux or Amazon EC2, and duplicate and reuse environments.
Monthly costs range from Free to $99.95 per month for hosting 75 applications, 100 gig storage and 200 gigs of bandwidth.
Their Application Library includes:
- Acquia Drupal 6.12
- Drupal 5.18
- Drupal 6.12
- Drupal 7 Dev
- Elgg 1.5
- Empty App
- Joomla 1.5.10
- Magento 1.3
- Mantis 1.1.6
- OMB
- Project Pier 0.8
- SilverStripe 2.3.1
- WordPress 2.7

I spent a good several minutes on Web Enabled and was very impressed. There are still some glitches they are working out (which I documented) but on the whole it's a very good environment for Drupal development team projects to get moving quickly. I have recommended it to several non-CivicActions clients already (I only discovered it 2 days ago!).
(CivicActions environment is somewhat similar to Web Enabled but more refined for CivicActions' needs. Therefore it's better for CA's clients, but not available to others)
