Call For Action: MIT Offering Mobile Activism Course

It's becoming a ubiquitous way for us to connect one-to-one, and increasingly a means of accessing the interwebs. Streaming video is penetrating and eventually two-way videoconferencing will be available. Pocket Sized Projectors portend incredible opportunities for sharing information. Mobile usage in the US is very different from that of the rest of the world, yet one thing is clear- the cellphone is not only "not going away" - it's going to burrow deeper into our lives and become a central means of accessing the network. This raises big questions for activists and organizers - how can this device, and the way we use it, be harnessed for change? Well, The MIT Media Lab is going to explore this question in their new course "Call For Action". In addition to exploring how to leverage this communications revolution, one of my favorite aspects of the class is that they plan to build a pirate GSM tower. Speaks to the geek in me.
