The Way We Work: Jenn Sramek

The Way I Work

I work primarily as a project manager at CivicActions, though I do serve in other roles as well. Being a project manager means that I am managing the schedules, workplan and budget for a number of projects at once, and that I work on one project or another with a large percentage of the whole CA team. My job requires a lot of patience, flexibility, communication, and the ability to keep track of seemingly several million details at once. It also requires a sense of humor, the ability to educate people, and sometimes, an iron will.

Global Warming Ad that says it all...

Submitted by JennSramek on August 3, 2007 - 10:00am.
I saw this global warming ad this morning and it seemed to me to capture my own feelings about it. I find myself frustrated when I see the scientific evidence of global warming, but that people choose to spend their energy debating its validity instead of doing something about it, just in case. Worth seeing and sharing...

What the world eats

Submitted by JennSramek on July 9, 2007 - 5:49pm.

When I was in college, I read what is still one of the most impactful books of my life: Material World by Peter Menzel. What was most impactful about this book to me was that it was mostly images depicting the possessions of people all over the world, outside of their homes. This made it both visibly impactful (since I could no longer ignore the huge difference between even what I owned as a scraping-by college student and what people in developing nations possessed) but also spiritually impactful, as I read about the families and how they made do with so little.

Archimedes Movement's "We Can Do Better" site launches

Submitted by JennSramek on November 28, 2006 - 10:57am.

The Archimedes Movement, a project of the Foundation for Medical Excellence, initiated by former Oregon state Governor John Kitzhaber, will launch a new website on December 5th that will support their goal of changing the way that people think about and work toward universal health care. The site, designed to maximize the effectiveness of online and in-person activism taking place all over the state, includes features such as document forums where members can discuss and suggest changes to proposed legislation, and a Chapter section, where members in a defined geographic area can call and publicize meetings, post and generate dialog about meeting notes, and post stories, blog posts, photos and other content that is specific to a given area.
