Filtering A View By A List Of Nodes With Checkboxes

One of our clients manages a Masters program and has a list of participating schools from around the globe. Because the program is similar at each institution, but has different admission and tuition requirements, the client wanted us to develop a tool for prospective students to easily compare each school. Students select their prospective schools, and the tool shows them all the necessary information in a table format.

Creating A Low Bandwidth Theme In Drupal

One of our clients has a large world-wide user base, in many locations where Internet access is limited. In addition to developing for mobile browsers, they also wanted a “low bandwidth” version of the site, optimized for older computers and dial-up connections. Using a handy module and some theming tricks, this was very easy to implement in Drupal.

A Soft Story About Code

Ezra  “Funk Coordinator” Barnett Gildesgame’s Drupalcon presentation, Introduction to Module Development, got me thinking about The Great Drupal Dilemma: to Code or Not to Code?

Wait, scratch that. Let me start again.

I’ve been building Drupal sites for over five years. I came from a design background.  I’m also half lazy, half apathetic and half gutless.

Scratch that.

Privacy Games Launched at the European Data Protection Day

Most of us are aware that many of our day-to-day actions are now captured in digitized form, from the more obvious online posts using email, blogs and social networking sites; purchases made using electronic payment systems and swiping your loyalty card at the supermarket.  Privacy games, launched on European Data Protection Day, provide deeper insight into data that is freely available with the hope that people will continue to ask the all-important questions: "who is collecting all of this – what are they doing with it  – with whom are they sharing it - why don't

We've Met The Enemy And He Is Powerpoint

So read the headline of a New York Time's article a few weeks back, you probably saw some coverage of the dizzying slide showing linkages between various constituencies in Afganistan.  Without going any further into that slide, or the article about it and the relationship of PowerPoint and military strategy, I'd like to highlight some ideas about slides and presentations.

Sharing Our Client Questionnaire for Website Development

A thread began a few days ago on the Drupal Consultants list regarding Client Questionnaires. Not long ago, Ian and I went through our own Client Questionnaire with the intention of supporting a client with a new project. In the end we simplified our original laundry list of questions to this much shorter and refined list, more pertinent to her specific project.

Opportunities at CivicActions

This past year, CivicActions has undergone a transformation in the way that we organize project teams.  We've moved from a "matrix" model (people contributing to several projects) to what we call "Pods" (dedicated teams focused on one or two projects at a time). This transformation has yielded incredible results for clients and project team members. This model also means that we can more easily scale, which we are preparing to do in 2010.
